Well, another drawing finished.
I’m not quite sure what to make of this one yet, probably because I really don’t like Dahlias.
55 years ago, when we went to visit a great-aunt, there was always the “obligatory” walk around the garden. And take it from me, that was a big garden.
Behind the house was a big vegetable garden with carrots, peas and plenty more vegetables. An orchard with apple, pear and plum trees, and in front of the house the flower garden.
And my aunt loved Dahlias. So she had lots of Dahlias, in all sorts of colours and shapes. And of course every variety had to be looked at properly.
My mother and my aunt had a memory to go with every Dahlia, and if they didn’t have a memory, then there was always something else to talk about.
To me it felt as though there was no end to it, the Dahlias, the conversations, and waiting for them to finish talking. I’m from the generation that had to keep quiet while the grown-ups were talking. And time went so slowly while we were looking at those Dahlias…….
Now, 55 years later, I still can’t stand those Dahlias.
So I can’t tell whether this drawing is “pretty” either. It’s a Dahlia, and that’s all I can say about it…
